Mike's Bio
Hey there.
How’s it goin’?
That’s cool.
Wow. I didn’t know that. I hope it turns out well.
Alright.
So you wanna know some stuff about me, huh?
I can dig that.
I was born and raised in Palos Verdes, CA (a suburb of Los Angeles) as the last and most powerful of the four Nelson boys. At the mere age of one and a half I could make whole sentences and entertain crowds stretching all the way back to my parents front door! My mother saw the brilliance and decided to start my performance training at the tender age of 8 when I was groomed for greatness at a local children’s theater. Good stuff. Had my first kiss there. Not bad. Anyways, in a modest attempt to hide my destiny, I tried to act like an average kid by hiking, riding my bike along the beach, joining the boy scouts, playing soccer, baseball, and bending spoons with my mind. However, none of these could ever measure up to my fate with the stage. So, after high school I set out into the world in search of the new and obscure!
My Junior year of college led me to study abroad at Middlesex University, London, UK and it was there that I met a new friend I now regard as strange and obscure. He hosts the show One Way Out (airing Monday nights at 9PM ONLY on Discovery! Maybe you’ve heard of it. I don’t know. Whatever.) His name is Jonathan Goodwin. To be honest, I don’t know what prompted us to be fast friends. I just know that we were. I remember he once came up to me with a rabbit trap and some duct tape. He asked me to tape his thumbs to the inside of the trap. He wanted to try and escape from the trap before I triggered it. It was no surprise that the trap shut before he got free and his thumbs were blue for two weeks. It staggered the mind a bit but I knew he was on to something. Something global…
After returning to the states, I graduated from Chapman University with a BFA in Theatre Performance in 2002. Wanting to see a broad spectrum of the entertainment industry before I dominate it, I went to work at a local LA radio station as a Promotions Assistant (a t-shirt tosser). The crowds did love me, for I gave them keychains too. From there, I worked as a Production Assistant for Warner Bros., Comedy Central, and Nickelodeon. I moved on to work in the art department for Mind of Mencia on Comedy Central. After that, I realized my time had come to throw myself head strong into the winds of fate! I could no longer be behind the camera. If I was to be somewhere, I was to be in front of it. So I threw my hat into the acting ring in 2006 and since then I have done several small films and numerous commercials. Not bad, huh? However, acting can’t always pay the bills so I freelance as a lighting technician for special events and parties (a job I’ve had since college).
Since starting One Way Out, I have had to hit him with a shovel, hit him with a bicycle, set fire to him, bury him alive, and countless other things which neither you nor I should ever attempt at home. But we’re not at your home. We’re at his.
I don’t have any superpowers like Terry Straud but I do have a love of the outdoors, traveling (I have been to 4 continents and would love to visit South America soon), discovering new people and cultures, trying beer and wine from all over the world, classic movies, football, golf, and yes, Jeeps. However, why feel the need to be super when you’re already powerful like me?!!!
…Whadya think?
Nice.
Okay. So I guess I’ll see you around.
Later.
