Hi. Mikey Nelson and here’s a
little bit about me.
Being the last of four boys, I needed attention at an early age and found my outlet in local children’s theatre at the age of 7. It was there that I fell in love with entertainment. Growing up in the hills of Palos Verdes, Ca. (a suburb of Los Angeles) I did the usual childhood stuff like hiking, Boy Scouts, soccer, riding my bike at the beach, but nothing ever got to me like my love to perform. The bug never left and I eventually went to college for it. It was during this time that I met certain bald Englishman that would forever change my perception of guts, intelligence, and stupidity. But I’ll get to that in a sec.
I graduated from Chapman University with a BFA in Theatre Performance in 2002. Wanting to see a broad spectrum of the entertainment industry, I went to work at a local LA radio station as a Promotions Assistant (a t-shirt tosser). From there, I worked as a Production Assistant for Warner Bros., Comedy Central, and Nickelodeon. I spent my off hours at Improv clubs and trained with the Second City Los Angeles and Upright Citzens Brigade. I moved on to work in the art department for Mind of Mencia on Comedy Central. Being there made me realize I could no longer be behind the camera. If I was to be happy, I needed to be in front of it. I got back into performing in 2006 and since then I have done several small films and numerous commercials. Now, back to Baldy…
I have always had a passion for traveling so in the spring of 2001 I studied overseas at Middlesex University, London, UK. This is where I met Jonathan. To be honest, I don’t know what prompted us to be fast friends. I just know that we were. I remember he once came up to me with a rabbit trap and some duct tape. He asked me to tape his thumbs to the inside of the trap. He wanted to try and escape from the trap before I triggered it. It was no surprise that the trap shut before he got free and his thumbs were blue for two weeks. Staggers the mind, doesn’t it?
I don’t have any superpowers like Terry Stroud but I do have a love of the outdoors, traveling, discovering new people and cultures, trying beer and wine from all over the world, classic movies, football, golf, and yes, Jeeps.
Since starting One Way Out, I have had to hit Jonathan with a shovel, hit him with a bicycle, set fire to him, bury him alive, and countless other things which neither you nor I should ever attempt at home. But we’re not at your home. We’re at his.
